This is a project i'm working on for quite a while now. As a huge fan of the 1.Gen Pokémon Games and a self-tought hobby programmer, i tought it would be a good idea to recreate a game as an learning project.

My "learning project" is grown into a full blown project game and the real games i'm working on are stuck in their idea state till this one is finished :-)

And the reason i'm publishing this project of mine is, its way too sad to play and enjoy it on my own. There are so many people (Pokémon-Fans) like me that would love the idea to replay a childhood game in a slightly refurbishd edition and not an complete overhaul, to keep the original nostalgic feeling.

I'm looking forward to hear your thoughts, ideas and general feedback for this project.

The Current State is:

  • approx. 30% of the overall world are considered finished and playable
  • the pokemon system itself is done so pokemon can be created and "live"
  • wild battle system is 50% done
  • safari battle system is 99% done
  • storysystem is 80%
  • textboxes work as in the original
  • traitors work
  • story is about 7% done
  • you can save and load your game
  • trainer battle system is the next thing to do
  • and more things i cant recall at the momemt...

The things i plan to do:

  • a player colour and some things in the game for example the bike is then coloured in this colour
  • add in deleted and beta content
  • add in mew in a place to be captured without tricks
  • add in npc's that trade the pokemon that only evolve over trade so you can complete the pokedex in singleplayer
  • add more places some even hidden
  • maybe maybe multiplayer
  • full controller support which is about 40%implemented
  • shortkeys for some item (map, bike, rod, etc)

You can now play the first part of the Story and nearly the full scope of game mechanics.

Although gamepad is fully supported you can play the game with keyboard but the controls can't be changed yet.

  • Start = Escape Key
  • Select = N Key
  • A = Spacebar
  • B = B Key
  • Directions = Arrow Keys

On gamepad the controls mapped after xbox-gamepad's

Did you use Unity, Godot or Construct?

No way! Never thought that so much could be done with Gamemaker!

Now you can :)

downloading now!

Thank you for the follow. I see your also making a gen 1 remake in color. It looks amazing. I think adding in the missingno glitch would be a great tribute, both or either the safari zone or the old man methods. What engine are you using to make this by the way?

To specify: which version of game maker studio

Thanks for the back follow ;) I really love to see people work on retro games and giving them a new life and look with modern technology. Your game looks also great! I use Gamemaker Studio 2. I already had the missingno glitch on my mind already but thanks eitherway for the recommendation :) Because you are also working on a gen 1 pokemon game, i could help you out with data sets and formulas for battle system etc if you need something, just pm me.

That's pretty cool, are you also making it to work on GBC?

No there won't be a GBC-Port because i'm not capable of doing it. Sorry :(

Do you have an estimation of when it's released?

I hope in 2024 it will be a complete game, but my goal is to publish a alpha/beta in 2023
